This was such a fun little story! Really enjoyed reading this with my younger cousin, who was very excited to point out that he could predict the ending. He also loved reading the facts about chameleons, though he’s currently in a dinosaur and Roblox phase right now. Still, keeping his attention for long enough wasn’t difficult with this book. Thank you for an ARC of this book and for helping me create beautiful memories with my cousins.

A Beautiful Lesson in Self-Acceptance, with Stunning Art
Frilly, the chameleon, completely won me over. At first, her dream of turning red feels playful and innocent, but the story quickly deepens into something all readers can relate to: the longing to be different, and the discovery that our true selves are more valuable than we realize. The turning point was when Frilly’s red disguise puts her in danger from a snake. The gentle resolution, guided by her friends, makes the message about self-acceptance heartfelt without ever being heavy-handed.
The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous. Created with acrylic paint collages, they burst with texture, color, and energy. Every page feels alive with rainforest detail. I’ve read this author’s earlier work to my grandkids and they love them both.
“The Chameleon Who Couldn’t Change Colors” is the kind of book children will enjoy for its adventure, while parents and teachers will love for its meaningful message. A perfect blend of fun and wisdom, and a beautiful reminder that sometimes being “just the way you are” is exactly right.

💛🦎Entertaining and adorable.
Frilly the chameleon couldn’t change color; she stayed green.
But Frilly would have loved to turn red, because it was her favorite color…
